What We Do

Care & Repair England is an independent charitable organisation which aims to improve older people’s housing.

It believes that all older people should have decent living conditions and be able to live in a home of their own choosing.

From Ideas into Action

We promote and support the development of practical housing solutions, particularly for older people living in private housing.

Through pioneering innovative projects with local partners we find out what works best for older people.

We then share good ideas and promote successful models.

Past examples of services which we initiated that are now part of the mainstream include:

  • Care & Repair schemes, which help older people undertake home repairs & adaptations
  • Handyperson services, providing free or low cost help with essential jobs in the home

We have led the way on ‘peer to peer’ advice (see Silverlinks) and delivering housing advice in hospitals (see Health & Housing).

We work with older people’s groups and organisations (see Housing Action) to share local action on housing policy and practice and offer information/resources on housing issues to groups alongside practical help to undertake action on housing.

Ignored and forgotten?

Poor or unsuitable housing has a profound effect on older people’s health and well-being.

Care & Repair England aims to raise awareness of the extent to which older people are living in poor and unsuitable housing.

We highlight the impact that this has on older people’s health, and aim to influence change in policy and practice.
